Only 15 private parcels are available within the approximately 50 acres of Madrona Cove, with a private beach and kayak launch, meandering nature trails and community garden, and over 30 acres of reserved forest and tidelands remaining as a private sanctuary owned by residents of the community.
The 30+ acres of reserved natural areas with its extensive network of trails, the private community beach, and the community gardens are amenities shared by all and managed by the community.
Located on the waters of Colvos Passage, on the west side of Vashon Island, Madrona Cove offers a lifestyle that, while quiet, rural and secure, allows easy access to the metropolitan cities of the Puget Sound.
Land once intended to be developed into 128 home sites, the pristine forests and tidelands on the west side of Vashon Island now provides the opportunity for only 15 new homes to be built in carefully selected locations scattered throughout and within the surrounding ecosystem.
Madrona Cove is the result of many years of effort by a significant group of professionals, led by Bob Kendrick of NorthWest Stewards, and was created by following the "Responsible Rural Design Standards"™ (RRDS).
We recognized the opportunity to save a rare, precious section of forest that would otherwise have been developed into an urban density subdivision, destroying the natural ecosystem in the process and disrupting the contiguity of the still pristine lands surrounding it.
Sensitive to the need to protect and preserve the diverse ecologically valuable environment of Madrona Cove, we recognized that the forests could absorb new homes only to the extent that the natural processes of functioning forests and tidelands could be reserved. They recruited a team of biologists, geologists, foresters, botanists, engineers, and architects to proceed with a series of studies that would reveal the intrinsic opportunities and constraints to residential development.
50 years in the making, is Madrona Cove... a community that indulges in the reservation of natural process lands... to capture their value as natural process lands... and regulate the development within them.
The homes of Madrona Cove will be sensitively located within this pristine landscape. The number of homes as well as their location have been driven by the environment and topography, resulting in a rural, waterfront community that truly was inspired by nature.
Never before... never again...
