Neefus Creek Coho Habitat Restoration Project
The continued focus of the Camp Navarro team has been the enhancement and restoration of the natural attributes and environment of the Camp.
This year, Camp Navarro partnered with the Mendocino Redwood Company, the US Department of Agriculture, the California Conservation Corps, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District and others to restore one of the tributaries on the property. The work completed will enhance the habitats for the Steelhead and Coho Salmon population which runs up the Navarro River.
Approximately one-half mile of the Neefus Creek Tributary coho and steal-head habitat was restored and improved to a “ aural” state. This restoration went all the way to the Navarro River.
This work included the installation of 15 large wood and boulder structures along the Creek. The work completed was based on a 2011 DFG Stream Inventory and NOAA CCC Coho Recovery Plan.
